Patricia Ann Spitzmueller, of Savage, and Kenneth Robert Spitzmueller ID’d as elderly couple found dead in Minnetonka murder-suicide

Patricia Ann Spitzmueller Death: Authorities have identified a 70-year-old couple who died in a murder-suicide in Minnetonka last week. Patricia Ann Spitzmueller, 71, of Savage, was found fatally shot in the head in an apartment at 12201 Minnetonka Boulevard on Thursday, July 18. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed this. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Kenneth Robert Spitzmueller, 76, of Minnetonka, was also discovered at the scene. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A neighbor called police at 8:30 p.m. Thursday to report that the couple had been found motionless, and both were declared dead at the scene when officers arrived.

Kenneth (Ken) Robert Spitzmueller and Patricia (Tricia) Ann Spitzmueller, passed away on July 18th, 2024. Their love story began over 50 years ago and is still a source of hope and strength for those who knew them. Ken was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on February 4, 1948. He was passionate about music and performed guitar at St. Luke’s Parish, where he met the love of his life. He attended Cretin, served in the United States Air Force for four years, and established a profitable furniture sales firm. He was noted for his willingness to help others, meticulous attention to detail, contagious laugh, and friendliness. Tricia was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on January 22, 1953.

She also enjoyed music. On her last day, she joked about “rubbing elbows” with Ken while playing guitar with him as a youngster, which was their first romantic communication. She attended Derham Hall and Carleton College, where she received a BA in Art History and Studio Art. She acquired a degree in Pastoral Ministries from Loyola Chicago, worked as a Spiritual Director, and was recognized internationally for her textile arts. She was noted for her unlimited compassion, insatiable curiosity, and fondness for lengthy, introspective chats.
